The fact that the edges of the knit are rolled up is a phenomenon that occurs mainly in the knitted fabric of Tenjiku.

Isn’t it possible that you want to use the ears of the knitted fabric on the front end of the cardigan, but it is not stable because it is wound, or the knitted end is wound when you make a slit?

Why does the knitting end wind up?

Here, I would like to explain what it is like to wind the edges of the knitted fabric.

(I think that each person has various names such as winding, roll, curl, etc., but here it is used synonymously as the meaning of winding.)

① Winding direction

If you have ever dealt with knits or cut-and-sew fabrics, you may have experienced it.

The knitted fabric of Tenjiku depends on the material, but in general, the ends are rolled up in a roll.

Like the illustration above,

Knitting / finishing, the direction of the straight line in the ground is on the front side of the fabric,

The knitting edge (on the ear side of the fabric in the cut and sew) is on the back side of the fabric,

I will wind it up.

This is a common winding direction for knitted fabrics and is one of the characteristics of knits.

② Why does it roll up?

The method of knitting and knitting the stitches is to hook a new loop from the back side to the loop (old loop) that was already knitted before.

The shape of this continuous loop itself is not curved and straight, so the direction of the applied force is fixed.

Since the knitted fabric itself is shaped by the orientation of this continuous loop, the force acting on the knitted fabric is applied so that the vertical is caught on the front side and the horizontal is caught on the rear side.

Therefore, the edges of the knitted fabric are naturally rolled up because there is no fabric that can be suppressed, and when cut, the edges roll around in the same way no matter where you cut it.

I myself sew a cut and sew, but it’s difficult to handle the fabric that is rolled up. In the handling with our products, it is good because the ends are sewn on sweaters etc. and the ends are not, but flat products such as mufflers will be rolled up, so devise ways to suppress it or adjust by trial knitting. doing.

How to eliminate the roundness of the knitted fabric

Now, here are some ways to prevent the knitting edges from rolling up.

Basically, if you leave it as it is, it will be rolled up, so make the knitting end a different structure.

① Insert the tissue of the total needle

The total needle structure eliminates the wrapping of the knitted fabric on one side so that the front and back are similarly exposed.

As an organization, the following are often used.

・ Total needle

・ One bag (half Milan)

・ Bag knitting

Edge: From the back of one bag (Half Milano)

Use a well-balanced organization according to the material and design.

② A method of offsetting and suppressing the power of the front and back stitches with the Lynx pattern.

Lynx is a pattern that combines the front and back, and by arranging the front and back in the same way, the force of the edge is offset.

・ Ribs (1X1 ribs, 2X2 ribs, etc.)

・ Garter (1X1 garter, 2X2 garter, etc.)

Edge: 1 x 1 rib

Edge: 2 x 1 rib

Generally it can be pressed by covering the edges with a tissue like the one above.

If the winding force is stronger, such as with a material or stretch, it may be adjusted to the extent that it fits by widening the width of the tissue, or it may be adjusted to fit as much as possible by finishing with a set press.

Also, the stronger the degree, the stronger the winding force, so there is an exception that the texture changes with the sweetness.

Attach another part

If you change the texture of the knitted fabric as described above, it will inevitably curl up or break at the boundary of the texture.

-Attach other parts such as co-thread tape and cloth tape to prevent curling.

・ Fold back the knitted fabric to make it look back

・ Completely change the tissue to another tissue such as a total needle or rib

However, it will affect the thickness and appearance, so it may be better to have a thick coat.

I’ve shown you how to control the sowing, but it’s also a good idea to try using a roll.

By rolling the hem, cuffs, collar, etc., a light finish with a very natural atmosphere like uncut is the point unique to knitwear.
