Decoding the organization diagram 1 x 1 rib and total needle

Hello everyone! I’m Hatanaka.

It’s almost like autumn.

It’s about mid-September and I’m about to start organizing autumn and winter knitwear.

This time, I will introduce how to read the basic knitting structure knitting diagram based on the knitting symbol introduced last time !!

table of contents

  • Total needle (rubber knitting)
  • 1×1 rib
  • summary

Do you see the difference by looking at the figure above?

The rubber fabric and 1×1 RIB are both knitted with 1 stitch rubber, and both look similar as RIB, but when disassembled in the knitting diagram, they are actually very different.

1×1 rib

ompared to the knitting diagram of all needles, the front and rear needles of 1×1 RIB face each other,

If you look only at one side, it is knitted while skipping one stitch at a time.

Total needle

The front and rear needles of the total needle are in staggered positions.

After that, if you use all the needles and continue knitting one by one, it will become a total needle.

summary

The distance created by this needle position makes a big difference in the knitting structure.

First, the number of stitches knitted is double that of 1 x 1 RIB for the total number of stitches.

→ This means that even with the same number of stitches, the total stitches can be knitted with a knitting width that is almost double that of 1×1 RIB.

Next, look at the area circled in red.

Compared to 1×1 RIB, the total needle has a shorter distance (thread crossover) to reach the opposite needle.

This means that the shorter the distance, the harder it is and the less elastic it is.

On the contrary, 1 × 1 RIB has a longer thread length, so the elasticity is larger (compared to the total needle).

As you can see, there are differences in RIBs that look the same.

For example, I want to make a RIB with narrowed hem and cuffs,

If you want a soft RIB, we recommend using 1×1 RIB.

On the other hand, if you want a design that does not squeeze, using a full needle is one method.

Since the placket is attached with a button hole and you want to make it hard, it is common to use a full needle.

How was it?

If you compare them on the organization chart, you can see the differences that you don’t usually notice, such as products and knitted fabrics!

Then this time around here ~
