The charm of nylon, which is a knit material

Hello, this is Kojima.

The other day, when I requested a knitted fabric with 100% nylon thread, I could express it like never before, so I didn’t know much about nylon, so I delved into it.

This time I would like to touch on the possibilities of nylon.

How nylon is made

Nylon is the first synthetic fiber that has been successfully industrialized, and the synthetic fiber that was being researched mainly by Dr. Carothers, a researcher at DuPont in the United States, was named nylon and started to be industrialized. In the old days, when there were many natural fibers such as hemp, silk, and cotton, there was an idea to create fibers by human hands.

Meanwhile, in Europe, research on rayon production was progressing because of the longing for silk.

Very strong fiber

Nylon was advertised with the catchphrase, “Fiber made from coal, air and water, thinner than spider silk, more beautiful than silk, and stronger than steel.” Nylon quickly became known around the world with this phrase. Currently, coal is being replaced by oil to reduce costs.

How strong is it?

It is one of the strongest of all fibers and has about ten times the frictional strength of cotton, and its strength is almost the same even when it gets wet.

It’s also very light. The specific density is as light as 70% of cotton, and it is the lightest among the fibers used in large quantities.

Due to its strength and lightness, it is widely used not only for clothing but also for industrial use, outdoors and medical treatment.

Also, because of its strength and lightness, it is often used as a holding thread for fancy yarn (a thread that keeps its shape). Nylon may be blended into the yarn with an interesting shape and indicated in the blend ratio.

New expression of nylon

The photo shows the cable pattern knitted with 100% nylon thread.

It is common to use nylon mixed with other materials, but when knitted with 100% nylon yarn, it looks different from wool, and it has a unique spondish finish and is lighter than anything else.

The shape of this thread is like this, it is fluffy if you do nothing like Woolly thread, and it looks like a thread when you pull it.

Since there is considerable expansion and contraction like this, there is a demerit that it is easy to distort the size of the product if it is a Tianzhu structure, but I think that it can be planned and stabilized by making a ground pattern and devising a combination of knitting methods.

The durability and strength of nylon has a lot of potential. Not only the strength but also the fact that it is highly dyeable and dyes in bright colors is noteworthy. Nowadays, clothes that can be used without seasons are not limited to knitwear, but the keyword is not limited to knitwear, but depending on how they are used as a stand-up material, it may take about three seasons and the range will expand further in the future.

See you again.
